That’s right, those are NOT tree seeds that our employees are looking after in the forest nursery – they’re peanuts! And there are two good reasons for this: Since we won’t be using the entire area of more than one hectare until the fall, the elephant grass threatens to overgrow the area again. The solution: plow it up and sow crops seasonally. As the rainy season started unusually early in Sierra Leone this year, extra shifts have to be worked – those who sow early, harvest early and achieve higher prices. Because that is the second reason: to generate income, 50% for the employees, 50% for the Foundation. And of course, harvesting later is like picking strawberries in Germany: you can snack on them …
